In a small village of Kassandra, we have created "Once upon a time", with much artistic feeling and love for children and man, tradition, nature and life... "Once upon a time... Means holidays and relaxation! Entertainment and action! Daring and adventure! A live fairytale-like reality...

In a ravine where holly, myrtles, arbutuses rove their braches. At a place where nightingales compose their musical symphonies In a valley whose boundaries are set by pine clad mountainsides.
Near the unique natural spring of Kassandra "Patatlaka", where gurgling waters spring from the heart of the mountain...
...at a place with a climate that can be compared to no other. At New Skioni, located at the peninsula of Kassandra in the prefecture of Halkidiki, only 1 km from the northeastern part of the picturesque village. All tradition gathered in this valley which seems as if untouched by time; however you will discover that time here is never enough if you want to see everything.

With the initiative of Dimitra Papachristodoulou - Gogakou, educator by profession, who wanted to give sound principles to her children - pupils and dreamt of a live folklore workshop, we created "Once upon a time..." with much artistic feeling and love for children and man, tradition nature and life.
Children are approximately the same age, forming small groups with an older person us their team leader, stay in small modern houses.
Experienced educators and trainers have prepared special programs concerning entertainment, creative and athletic activities.
Special care to the health of children, offered 24 hours a day by a doctor or a nurse.
Because technology has made man arrogant and egocentric Because we think that environmental education does not work when man face environment authoritatively. Because the "Nature-Animals-Man" triptych must retain a balance
Because man can never realize the fact that man and environment are interdependent by means of words but by experience and actions. This is the reason why we created "Once upon a time"
At its live folklore workshops you will see nature, man, animals in an interdependent harmonic and balanced relationship.
At "Once upon a time" you will see no dead exhibition areas.
You will experience live tradition, a fairytale-like reality, a game of tradition and life, of nature, man, animals, in as ideal relationship.

За пети път София ще посрещне фолклорни ансамбли от различни страни на света, които ще вземат участие в Международния фолклорен фестивал София 2012.

Фестивалът е част от проекта „София – Европейска столица на културата 2019”.

Провеждан от Столична община, под патронажа на Председателят на СОС, фестивалът е една от културните прояви с международен мащаб и особена национална значимост, които ни помагат да съхраним своя национален облик чрез нашия фолклор.

На този форум си дават среща представители на различни култури от цял свят. Стотици танцьори, музиканти, певци стават съпричастни на една магическа интернационална сила, която ги обединява – голямата любов към фолклора, който техните предци са сътворили през вековете.

През лятото на 2005 година в Академията за музикално, танцово и изобразително изкуство /АМТИИ/ се откри за пръв път международен летен фолк семинар, в който организаторите въведоха нов метод за преподаване на богатата ни фолклорна традиция. До сега любителите на музикално-танцовата ни култура нямаха лесно осъществим достъп до самия нейн извор – талантливите изпълнители от различните фолклорни региони, отдалечени от по-големите градове, в лицето на певци, инструменталисти и танцьори.
Осъзнавайки този проблем, АМТИИ - Пловдив разви нов преподавателски метод, при който фолклора на дадено село се поднася на студента, което елиминира необходимостта студентът да издирва същия самостоятелно. В качеството си на най-висша институция за изучаване на фолклор в България, Академията изгради колоритна програма, при която опитът на професионалните преподаватели се комбинира с автентичността на селските майстори-танцьори от страната.
В своето осмо издание, от 22 до 28 юли, семинарът предлага класове по народно пеене, народни инструменти /гайда, кавал, гъдулка, тъпан, тамбура, кларинет, акордеон, цигулка/. Танцовата програма тази година ще се съсредоточи върху различна фолклорна област всеки един от дните. Танцьори и музиканти от с. Софрониево, с. Дибич, с. Опан, с. Поибрене, гр. Брезник и с. Добърско ще преподават типичните си хора през седмицата. Всеки може да се включи в танцовите часове, не се изисква предварителен опит.

До момента в страната няма подобна програма, съсредоточаваща носителите на автентичната традиция на едно място в продължение на една седмица. Хора на възраст между 7 и 70 са участвали в семинара в досегашните му издания, представящи 14 различни държави. АМТИИ наблюдава нарастващия интерес към изучаването на народни танци с любителска цел. За да поощри тази тенденция, Академията предлага на българите живеещи в страната или студенти живеещи в чужбина специална цена от 40 лв. на ден. Участниците могат да посещават ежедневни класове по танци, пеене или народен инструмент по свой собствен избор. Важно е да уточним, че тази цена покрива всички занимания свързани със семинара, но не включва хотел или храна. Всеки клас се реализира в рамките на 75 минути (за деня, 4 класа = 300 мин).

Dear Friends of Balkan Music and Dance,

Summer is always full of festivals and other events worth attending, but our Bulgarian Folk Music & Dance Seminar, which takes place in the beautiful ancient city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, is unique because of the way tradition comes to you. Our rich, one-of-a-kind program couples the teaching expertise of instructors from the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in Plovdiv with the music and dance wisdom of tradition bearers from around the country.

• Dance classes are taught by “village masters" from various ethnographic regions in Bulgaria. Different groups of dancers and musicians are featured throughout the week, teaching dances and songs from their own villages.

• Instrument classes are taught by some of the finest teachers in the country. Lessons on traditional Bulgarian instruments (gudulka, kaval, tambura, tupan and gaida) are offered to both beginners and experienced students, while modern instrument classes (accordion, violin and clarinet) are oriented toward players who already have some experience.

• Singing classes are very inclusive and welcome students at all levels. Songs and singing styles from various regions are presented, focusing both on voice production and ornamentation.

All classes are translated from Bulgarian into English. A Bulgarian language class, as well as some optional evening social activities offer you an opportunity to widen your experience of Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian Folk Music & Dance Seminar, now in its 8th year, is especially designed for non-Bulgarians (or Bulgarians interested in connecting with their "roots" music and dance) who want a more in-depth opportunity to learn Bulgarian traditional instruments, singing styles, and dance than is normally possible for groups or individuals traveling to Bulgaria. Please refer to our website for more information. We are continuing our special 15% discount for members of the East European Folklife Center (www.eefc.org).
