Text Hi,
Next July I will be visiting Bulgaria with a group of fellow geology students, from the Netherlands. Of course, we are very much interested in the geology and geography of Bulgaria, but we (especially I) would also like to undergo some Bulgarian folklore.
Has any of you forum-visitors knowledge of Bulgarian music or dance events at these locations?
from 11-15 july we will be in Sofia
15-20: Rila monastry
20-21: Varna
21-25: Burgas
I have no idea whether there are any organised events, or if it is common or easy to organise a music/dancing evening out of the blue, whereever we are...?
Please let me know!
If possible via email menno.nijhuis@gmaail.com (delete second 'a')
Regards
Menno Nijhuis

Hi Menno,
It's nice that you will be visiting Bulgaria in July with a group of students
Offhand I don't know of any festivals at the locations you mention, on those dates, but will let you know if I hear of anything. If you dine out in typical Bulgarian restaurants where there is live music, it's quite possible you will come across Bulgarians doing circle dances and you can join in! If, at a future date, you are interested in learning Bulgarian instruments or dances, why not consider Balkanfolk workshop, details of which can be seen on this website!
Enjoy your stay in Bulgaria.
kindest regards,
Anna Travali
