Vitosha 2007 International Folklore Festival in Sofia Begins

The 11th edition of the International folklore festival Vitosha 2007 was launched yesterday, 14 July in Sofia. A street procession started at 7 pm in front of the National Palace of Culture, passed along Vitosha Blvd and ended in the City garden, where an official opening was held at 8 pm.

The organizers are Sofia Municipality, City Council, Vitosha regional administration and Vitosha cultural club. The festival will be held with the financial support of Ministry of Culture.

By 20 July more than 500 young artists from 12 countries will have presented their folklore dances and music. The main stage will be at the City Garden. Three more stages will be placed in different quarters of the capital and the town of Bankya. The entrance is free of charge.

Participants are from Indonesia, Italy, China, Lithuania, Georgia, Korea, Hungary, Venezuela, Romania, Cyprus, Armenia and Bulgaria. Central Executive Secretary General of IOV (International Organisation of Folk Art), Hans Joachim Holz and the director of the European division of the same organization Peter Marko are amongst the guests of the festival.

The festival will be closed in front of National Art Gallery and a competition called "Мома Вита и момък Люлин" will choose the most beautiful girl and the most handsome boy amongst the participants. The participants will be asked to take part in a few entertaining competitions based on Bulgarian tradition.
